If you are a musician then you know the importance of Scales, having a proper knowledge of scales helps in playing any instrument easily. For a guitar learner Scales become very important as it helps in playing tabs of any song and also the chords for the song. So, a Scale is a group of notes placed sequentially by their pitch. These group of notes are played individually.

Today we are going to learn G# Major Scale and how do we find out a Major Scale using Major Scale formula. So firstly Major Scale consists of Seven Notes placed sequentially in an octave. We can find any Major Scale just by using a simple Formula.

Formula for Major Scale :- W-W-H-W-W-W-H

Here W is Whole Step which means there is a Fret Gap between two Notes and H is Half Step means there is no gap between two Notes. Let us take a look at how we can find out G# Major Scale.

G# Major Scale

A  A#  B  C  C#  D  D#  E  F  F#  G  G#

I have written down all the notes that are in the music theory, it will be easier for us to now look at scales. So our formula for Major Scale is W-W-H-W-W-W-H.

  • The first note of G# Major Scale will be G# Note as it’s the Base Note.
  • Next we have a Whole Step so After G# Note we skip one note that is A Note our next note will be A# Note.
  • Then we have a Whole Step so after A# we skip one note that is B Note so our next Note will be C Note.
  • Now there is a Half Step so without skipping any Fret after C our next note will be C# Note.
  • We have got our 4 notes now let’s move ahead we have a Whole Step so skipping one note that is D Note we get our next note that is D# Note.
  • Next we have a Whole Step again so after D# Note we skip one note that is E Note we get F Note.
  • Moving ahead we have one more Whole Step so skipping another note that is F# Note our next note will be G Note.
  • Now we have got all our seven notes but still there one more step to go so let’s check whether our base note repeats or not. We have a Half Step now so after G Note without skipping any note we get G# Note that is our Base Note.
  • So we have easily find out our G# Major Scale. Let’s look at all the notes we have find :-

G# Major Scale :- G#  A#  C  C#  D#  F  G  G#

Last note is repeated back again.

In the similar way we can find out all the Major Scales, all we need to know is all the 12 notes that is A  A#  B  C  C#  D  D#  E  F  F#  G  G# and Major Scale Formula W-W-H-W-W-W-H and then we just need to apply these into any scale we want and follow all the steps as we have done above. These Major Scales will help us a lot in learning more about music as How to find the tabs of any song or chords of any song and also in understanding how a song is composed. Learning these scales will also help in detail understanding of music theory related to modes, pentatonic scales, blues, jazz etc.

Thus by using this way we can easily find any Major Scales we wanted, just apply the same Formula and follow the Notes. Those who wanted to learn all Major Scales and how each scale are found can go through this article Major Scales In Guitar.
