How To Use Capo In Guitar
This article is on How to use Capo In Guitar ?
As many people plays guitar but many of them give up too quickly as due to bar chords. Its difficult to play for many beginners as it require lot of pressure and technique. But what if I say you don’t need to really learn bar chords you can easily play open chords and play your favourite songs. Yes you read it write we are going to do with the help of Capo.
Capo is a tool that is used for converting Bar Chords into Open Chords. We can convert any bar chords into easy open chords there is just a simple trick to do this. In this article we are going to understand How to use Capo ? and How Capo Works?
So firstly we have to know all the 12 notes of music theory that are:-
A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G#
Let’s understand it with an example firstly we will convert a single bar chord into open chord like we take C# Minor, now as we use capo on 1st fret we move one note back(look into 12 notes written above), if we use capo on 2nd fret move 2 notes back and so on. So let’s check on which fret we get open chord if we use capo on 1st fret we move 1 note back that is C Minor(it’s a bar chord) moving ahead we put capo on 2nd fret moving 2 notes back is B Minor it is also a bar chord, now we put capo on 3rd fret we move 3 notes back that is A# Minor that is too a bar chord, we put capo on 4th fret going 4 notes back it is A Minor, that’s it we can put Capo on 4th fret and play A Minor open chords instead of C# Minor. That’s how capo works.
Now we look same thing with 4 chords at a time, I am taking A# Major, G# Major, G Minor & C Minor. Let’s see this first we have A# Major so we put capo on 1st fret moving 1 note back we get A Major, it is an open chord. Let’s move ahead we have G# Major we put capo on 1st fret move 1 note back we get G Major it’s too a open chord, moving ahead we have G Minor we put capo on 1st fret we get F# Minor, it’s a bar chord. Next we put capo on 2nd fret move 2 notes back we get F Minor, it is too a bar chord. Let’s move ahead putting capo on 3rd fret move 3 notes back we get E Minor and that’s a open chord so for G Minor we have to use capo on 3rd fret. Now you might have a confusion that for A# Major and G# Major we are using the capo on 1st fret and for G Minor we are using on 3 rd fret so if we are playing these chords together in one song it is not possible. Hence we have to match all the chords in a same Capo position, we can use G Minor on capo with 3rd fret so we cannot change G Minor to 1st fret hence we have to change A# Major and G# Major chord let see them in A# Major changing capo to 3rd fret we move 3 notes back and get G Major that is an open chord, it suits perfectly. Next we check G# Major changing its capo to 3rd fret moving 3 notes back we get F Major that is also a open chord. Hence capo on 3rd fret suits perfectly on all these chords now the last chord let check that too. We have C Minor so let’s directly check it to 3rd fret moving 3 notes back we get A Minor. So, all of our 4 chords converts to open chords by using the capo on 3rd fret, hence 3rd fret is the perfect position for using capo in these chords.
In the similar way we can easily find out the open chords for any bar chords or for any set of bar chords just use same position for capo in all the set of bar chords. So, we have learned How to use capo in Guitar ?
